Pain relief

We know now that our state of mind determines the “painfulness” of pain; that anxiety can increase the painfulness of a given stimulus while pleasure can decrease the painffulness of the same stimulus. One of the most consistent effects of floatation is a dramatic decrease in anxiety, both as subjectively percieved by the floater and as measured against certain physiological scales of anxiety (including blood pressure; levels of ACTH, adrenaline, noradrenaline; pulse; oxygene consumption). Therefore, floatation proven ability to decrease anxiety can significantly reduce the painfulness of life’s everyday pain-reducing stimuli, whether it is a headache, a broken bone or a broken heart.
